Humanize and Fact-Guard
Rewrite only the paragraphs that read machine-made, with every name, date and figure checked against your draft.
Humanize rewrites the parts of a draft that read machine-made and leaves the rest alone. Fact-Guard then compares the rewrite with your draft, so a rewrite never quietly changes your facts.
What gets rewritten
Only paragraphs that read machine-made or partly machine-made are rewritten. These are kept exactly as they are:
- paragraphs that already read like a person;
- headings, lists, quotes and code;
- any words you add under Keep these exact words, such as product names, people's names or a figure that must stay as written.
If nothing needs rewriting, Humanize says so and leaves your draft as it is.
How to use it
- Open Humanize and paste your draft (up to 2,000 words at a time on the website).
- Add any terms to Keep these exact words.
- Start the rewrite. It usually takes about a minute, longer for a long draft. You can leave the tab; if you reload the page, it picks the rewrite back up.
- Compare the rewrite with your draft, then Copy the rewrite, Send to… a connected platform, or Open the rewrite in the X-Ray to check it again.
Keep the original switches back to your draft at any time. Nothing in your draft changes until you choose to use the rewrite.
Fact-Guard
Fact-Guard lists the facts in your draft and checks each one in the rewrite. It looks for:
- names of people, companies, products and places;
- dates and years;
- numbers, percentages and amounts of money;
- links;
- the words you asked it to keep.
Each fact is marked as kept, changed or dropped, and Fact-Guard also flags any fact the rewrite added that was not in your draft.
- If every fact is kept, the rewrite is ready to use.
- If a fact is written differently (for example "5 percent" for "5%"), it counts as kept, with a note to check it before you use it.
- If a fact was dropped or one was added, Fact-Guard stops the rewrite and nothing in your draft changes. You can look at the rewrite anyway, keep the original, or use the X-Ray's small edits instead.
While rewriting, DropSlop also tries to put back any number, date, name or link a paragraph lost before Fact-Guard runs.
Fact-Guard does not check quotations word for word, and it cannot tell whether a fact in your draft is true. It only checks that the rewrite says the same thing your draft did.
Words
Humanize counts the words in the draft you send as rewritten words, once per rewrite. Without an account you get one rewrite a day. See Words, certificates and plans.
