Quickstart
Check a draft, accept a few cuts and, if you need it, rewrite the rest. About five minutes.
Open the X-Ray
Go to the X-Ray. You don't need an account for your first check.
Add your draft
Paste or type it, drop in a .txt or .md file, or use Import from a link to bring in a public Google Doc, blog post or web page. The X-Ray needs at least 12 words and reads up to 5,000 words at a time. Nothing is saved unless you press Save.
Read the result
At the top is a verdict for the whole draft: Reads like a person, Partly machine-made or Reads machine-made. Below it, the phrases that make the writing read machine-made are underlined, and each paragraph gets a rough tone of its own. How to read a score explains what these mean and where they are weak.
Accept the cuts you agree with
Each suggestion is a small cut or swap. Press Accept, Decline or Undo on each one, or Accept all. After each change the X-Ray scores the whole draft again and tells you in words how much it moved. Suggestions stay small on purpose: together they change at most a tenth of the draft's words.
Rewrite what's left, if you need to
If some paragraphs still read machine-made, open Humanize. It rewrites only those paragraphs, and Fact-Guard stops the rewrite if a name, date or figure would change.
Keep your work
To save drafts and their versions, make a free account: enter your email on the log in page and open the link we send you. Then press Save in the X-Ray, and find the draft later in your Library.
