Voices
Teach the X-Ray how you write, so it stops marking habits that are yours.
A voice is a short description of how someone writes: how long their sentences usually run, how often they use dashes, and how often they use contractions such as "don't". The X-Ray uses it so it doesn't mark a habit that is simply your style.
Making a voice
- Open Voices.
- Paste 3 to 10 samples of your own writing, at least 20 words each, or drop in
.txtor.mdfiles. Pieces you wrote yourself, without AI help, work best. - Look over the profile it builds. The profile is worked out in your browser; nothing leaves it until you press Save.
- Give the voice a name and press Save. Saving needs a free account.
Using a voice
Choose Use this voice for edits, then open the X-Ray. With a voice on, the X-Ray:
- doesn't mark dashes if you use them often;
- prefers suggestions without contractions if you rarely use them;
- describes rhythm against your usual sentence lengths.
The choice is remembered in the browser you made it in. Humanize does not use voices yet.
Deleting a voice
Open the voice and press Delete. This removes it from your account and cannot be undone. The built-in example voices can't be deleted.
